2008 Honor Star Salute

What does it take to be an Honor Star? Why do we celebrate this accomplishment in a girl’s life with so much pomp and circumstance?

Beginning with the first Honor Star in our church history and continuing to the future Honor Stars who are now Prims and Daisies; we honor their commitment to the Stars Club Pledge to “striving always to glorify my Lord as a Star.”

MPact Girls’ Ministries is a mentoring and discipleship ministry. We meet with these young ladies each week on Wednesday nights in grade-specific classrooms. Each month we begin a new theme or unit with Bible lessons, a project related to that unit and workbook pages. In order earn the badge for a unit, they need to complete all the above plus recite the memory verse associated with that unit. In addition to these regular units, the Honor Stars complete 9 Honor Steps which requires extra work outside of the classroom.

All Honor Stars are required to read the entire New Testament, complete a minimum of 27 month-long units, including all 9 of the Honor Steps to qualify for the prestigious title of Honor Star. A few of these steps include keeping a prayer journal, memorizing the Assemblies of God Statement of Faith, and learning the Books of the Bible in order and spelled correctly.

Once all of this has been completed, the Honor Star candidates must pass a written test over the 36 Bible verses they have memorized over the past 3 years of study in their Stars Club.

These young ladies that stand before you today, and those whose names appear in the bulletin from years prior, have earned the praise and accolades that we now bestow upon them.

Congratulations to our Honor Stars, your church, your teachers, and your families are proud of your accomplishment!

Penny Power Update

Wow! What a fabulous job the boys and girls did in raising money this month for BGMC! The official dollar count is not yet in, but as far as the "weightiest" offering bucket... the award goes to the boys! They brought in 19 pounds of change, and the girls brought in 11 pounds. That's a total of 30 pounds of change for missions around the world! I saw a few dollar bills, and even a couple of five dollar bills in the girls' bucket-so we may have the dollar amount winner different from the weight winner. Thanks to Adam S. who brought in a 12 pound gift for the boys! Just like the little boy who gave his lunch to Jesus, our small offering when placed in Jesus' hands will bless a multitude.

Penny Power!

This month our BGMC Missions giving emphasis is called "Penny Power!" Boys and girls from Lafayette are challenged to see who can bring in the "weightiest" offerings in May. All proceeds go to benefit children around the world through BGMC. We will celebrate our accomplishment with Dilly Bars outside, weather permitting, on Sunday, May 25th.

Truth and Consequences

This month we are "traveling" to Russia where we’ll meet Shamus Snitch, a spy who never gets his man. In a world of espionage where it’s hard to know what’s true or false, Shamus can’t even remember his real name, much less his mission directive! He has a few things to discover about being a spy and most importantly, telling the truth. What's the point? "I will tell the truth and honor God!"

Compassion

Your kids are in for an unforgettable adventure. Our fun theme takes us kids to exotic India, where we’ll meet Dr. Aiken Payne, a brilliant doctor with a horrible bedside manner. Although she’s on a ministry trip to care for the sick, she has a few things to discover about showing compassion. What's the point? "I will show God's love by caring for others' needs!"

Attitude Check in Hawaii

In February, we "travelled" to beautiful Hawaii, where we met Ima Bummer, expert in all things proper. She was the first to tell you when something or someone’s not up to her lofty standards. Not even Hawaii pleases her! Along the way, Ima’s attitude got a much-needed adjustment. What's the point? "I will choose a good attitude!"
